Vertigo Games finally revealed the release date for its upcoming sequel to Arizona Sunshine (2016), which is set to bring us back to the dusty post-apocalyptic desert for another tango with the undead hordes. Also: the first gameplay trailer.

Arizona Sunshine 2 is slated to launch on all major VR headsets on December 7th, which the studio has confirmed will include a co-op mode as well as single player campaign at launch.

We’ve also got our first look at actual gameplay, which admittedly doesn’t look terribly far off from the previous CG trailer released back in May. There seems to be plenty of opportunities to blow up, dismember, and roast the hell out of the shambolic enemies—all in the search of ‘Patient Zero’, which is supposedly the game’s main objective.

Coming to Quest 2/3/Pro, PSVR 2, Pico and SteamVR headsets, you’ll find Arizona Sunshine 2 is also now available for pre-order as a Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition, with each edition including exclusive digital items. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Standard Edition ($50): Pre-orders include the Biker Bark Vest, Worker Watch, and Ducky Weapon Charm in-game exclusive bonuses.
  • Deluxe Edition ($60): Available at a 10% pre-order discount. Includes everything in the Standard Edition, plus the Freddy Hands Skin, Doggy Weapon Charm, and Undead Buddy—turning your loyal four-legged friend into an undead killing machine.

‘Budget Cuts’ Halloween Update Twists Stealth Action into Stalker Horror

Budget Cuts (2018), the stealth action game, has always been about taking pensive steps, hiding in the darkness and not tipping off the killer robot guards on your way through the game’s liminal office space. Now developers Neat Corporation released a spooky update that flips the script, turning the game’s stealth action into stalker horror.

The studio today unleashed what it calls ‘Nightmare Mode’, bringing the main foe ADAM to the campaign levels of Budget Cuts Ultimate (2023), which includes both Budget Cuts and Budget Cuts 2: Mission Insolvency (2019).

Like Alien: Isolation (some are dubbing the update ‘ADAM: Isolation’) players must navigate what the studio calls “spookified levels while being relentlessly pursued by killer bot ADAM.”

Normally the game’s unique portal-teleportation mechanic is great for thoughtfully warping around the map and looking for safe purchase amid a sea of overpowered robot foes. In the latest update, players will need to sneak, hide and quickly warp around like never before, as weapons have zero effect on ADAM.

If you’re not up for the challenge though, the update also lets you play through the regular campaign as normal without ADAM stalking you so you can enjoy the addition of the mode’s spooky seasonal decor just the same.

The game’s Nightmare Update is now live on Budget Cuts Ultimate across all supported platforms, including Quest, PSVR 2 and Steam.

Hit Co-op Horror Game ‘Phasmophobia’ Delayed on PSVR 2 and PS5

Indie studio Kinetic Games announced it’s delaying the release of its hit co-op horror game Phasmophobia on PSVR 2.

The four-player psychological horror game was slated to land on PlayStation 5 and PSVR 2 sometime in August, but was later delayed to October following a fire incident at the studio’s office.

Now, Kinetic Games says in a Steam news update that the game is suffering another delay due to some “unforeseen challenges in adapting the game for consoles.”

“These combined factors have affected our development timeline more than we initially anticipated,” Kinect Games says.

“Additionally, in preparation for the PlayStation VR2 launch, we have been diligently reviewing the game’s performance and optimizing it across all maps to ensure a seamless experience for all of our console players. In this regard, we had to rework Maple Lodge Campsite with a completely new layout (more information below). This decision, though time-consuming for our art team, is essential to provide the best possible gameplay experience.”

Kinetic Games hasn’t mentioned an updated release window for Phasmophobia, however the studio says to stay tuned.

Putting you in a number of haunted locations filled with paranormal activity, Phasmophobia tasks you with gathering evidence with your ghost hunting equipment and selling it on to the black market. Go it alone, or head in with three other friends to share a fright together.

The game has celebrated a good deal of success since it launched into Early Access on Steam in 2020, providing support for both SteamVR headsets and traditional monitors. At the time of this writing,has amassed nearly 500,000 user reviews, putting it at a 96% ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ score.

Fast Travel Games Teases Mysterious VR Multiplayer, Full Reveal Coming in September

Fast Travel Games teased a mysterious new multiplayer title today that the VR studio and publisher says we’re due to learn more about sometime next month.

The studio tweeted out a short teaser with a cryptic message, which reads: “The [redacted] have frozen time. I don’t know how it’s even possible. We need to work together to [redacted].”

Fast Travel, which is known for developing Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife, Apex Construct and The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets, has also become a prolific publisher of VR games, with titles under its wing including Broken Edge, Cities VR, Guardian’s Frontline, We Are One, and Virtuoso.

The short teaser says it’s coming from Fast Travel Games without mentioning any other studio though. Much like the studio’s upcoming single-player RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice, it could be the product of in-house development.

Promising a September reveal, the most logical date could be Meta Connect, which is starting September 27th. There, we’re sure to get an info dump of Quest 3 games, release dates, and everything under the sun about Meta’s next big consumer headset release.

In the meantime, we’ll have our eyes peeled on Fast Travel’s social channels for any clues as to what the mysterious multiplayer game may hold.

INVERSE, a multiplayer survival horror unveiled by MassVR, has launched into early access on Quest. Be the monster, or the agents working together to restore power to the facility.

In this 4v1 asymmetric game, players can choose to be the Agents, working together to restore control terminals, or take on the role of the Nul monster, seeking to corrupt and disable unsuspecting victims—so basically Dead by Daylight, but for VR.

During its early access period on Quest, which is now available for free through Quest App Lab, there are currently two multiplayer maps and one single player challenge map available, which includes the ability to play as one of the ‘Reaper’ monsters.

The studio says at the game’s full release, which is slated to come in Fall 2023, INVERSE will up the player count to five Agents and two playable monsters, with more content promised in the future.

Early Access is free, although the studio says the price will increase at full release. Check out the announcement trailer below, which was released during UploadVR’s Summer Showcase.

Things are about to get a little stranger later this year as Meta’s Quest Gaming Showcase today included a new look at Stranger Things VR, the upcoming psychological horror title coming to major VR headsets. It’s also coming a little earlier than the Winter 2023 release date previously mentioned at last year’s debut.

Stranger Things VR is being developed and published by Tender Claws, the studio behind VR titles Virtual Virtual Reality and The Under Presents.

Here’s how the studio describes the upcoming single player horror-action game:

Experience the world of Stranger Things from the never-before-seen perspective of Vecna as he explores unknown realities, forms the hive mind, and enacts his plan for revenge against Eleven and Hawkins. Players will invade the dreams and memories of fan-favorite characters and harness telekinetic powers to possess minds and battle creatures, as Henry Creel’s transformation into Vecna and his influence on the events of prior seasons is revealed.

● Grab, crush and throw your opponents using telekinesis

● Relive memories from Henry’s time at Hawkins Lab with Dr. Brenner as you explore an otherworldly, interconnected hive mind

● Inhabit the dreams and memories of fan-favorite characters like Will Byers and Billy Hargrove as you manipulate them to do your bidding

● Wielding powers that subvert and defy Vecna’s own, make a final stand to save your friends in a climactic finale

● Open and close portals between worlds and realities… at your peril

The studio says it’s bringing the game to Quest 2 and Quest Pro at some point this Fall, although it’s also hitting “major VR platforms” too, which nowadays typically means PSVR 2, Pico, and SteamVR headsets.

Stranger Things VR was previously projected to arrive in Winter 2023, so it seems to be anticipating a glut of other games announced today which are slated to launch this winter.

PSVR 2 Horror Shooter ‘Switchback’ Shows Off Unique Eye-tracking Uses in New Video

Don’t blink, because PSVR 2’s eye-tracking may get you more than you bargained for in the headset’s upcoming on-rails horror shooter The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR, which aims to toss some extra scares your way when you least suspect it.

PSVR 2 is releasing on February 22nd, and in its 100+ game content lineup is a unique horror game from the makers of Until Dawn: Rush of Blood which tosses you back into another rollercoaster thrill ride that arms you with plenty of guns to fend off what bumps in the night.

Besides bringing high-quality VR to PS5, Sony’s next-gen headset also packs in eye-tracking, which is many games are using for easier UI selection and foveated rendering—useful, but not terribly exciting stuff.

Some developers though, including Supermassive Games, are integrating the feature into their core gameplay loop, which in Switchback’s case allows enemies to move around specifically when your eyes are closed.

In a new gameplay video, Supermassive shows off the feature as it plays out beyond the big ‘DON’T BLINK’ doors, revealing a room full of grotesque mannequins which only move when you blink—and they’re entirely focused on attacking you if they can.

Alejandro Arque Gallardo, Game Director at Supermassive, says there’s also set to be another mannequin type that works with eye-tracking, but cryptically will work in “a completely different way.”
