Orbisk introduces a solution to reduce food waste by up to 70%

January 11, 2022 by

Image recognition technology leads to high-cost savings for hotels and restaurants

Utrecht, the Netherlands, December 2021 – One-third of all the food produced globally is wasted, representing 1.3 billion tons of edible food and unnecessary spending. Orbisk is a Dutch startup aiming to make the world food system more sustainable, by giving professional kitchens the ability to reduce their edible food waste stream by up to 70% with their fully-automated food waste monitoring service. The collected data allows professional kitchens to adapt and optimize their entire food process, save thousands of kilos per year (worth tens of thousands of dollars), and realize a net operating margin increase of 2-5% while doing good for the planet.

Combating climate change

According to Project Drawdown, food waste reduction is the #1 solution to combat climate change. The foodservice industry wastes billions of kilograms of edible food per year, resulting in pollution (growing, farming, transport) and billions of kilograms of CO2 being released into the atmosphere. And it’s happening because of a lack of insights. After all, you can’t reduce your food waste if you don’t know how much you waste.

How Orbisk works

Orbisk has made it its mission to enable hotels, restaurants, and caterers to track and combat their waste. Through image recognition technology, Orbisk recognizes what sort of ingredient goes to waste and in what quantity. Chefs, kitchen staff, and business owners get access to an online dashboard with all the collected data from the monitor. They can see per week, day, or ingredient, how much they throw away, and at which moment of the day. This allows them to recognize recurring losses and adapt their entire kitchen process to save food, money, and do good for the environment.

Orbisk food waste solution is available for $650 per month. With Orbisk, an average food service location saves on average $65.000 per year.

maca-deploys-racecar-technology-in-creation-of-hybrid-carcopter-s-eleven-flying-vehicle

MACA Deploys Racecar Technology in Creation of Hybrid Carcopter S Eleven Flying Vehicle

January 5, 2022 by

Historically, race cars have had a tremendous impact on the evolution of the consumer automobile. Nearly every element incorporated into modern vehicles, from aerodynamics, steering wheels and suspension to transmissions and turbochargers – was born from innovations on the racetrack.

So when French startup MACA unveils their revolutionary Hybrid Carcopter S Eleven Flying Vehicle from

Booth #61244 in the Eureka Park Marketplace at CES next month, It should come as no surprise that this

new flying race car has its roots in the world’s fastest sport.

“The racing industry has enabled us to build and evolve our product faster than our competitors because

we apply existing requirements and certifications to our craft beginning with our initial design phase,

allowing us to overcome all regulatory hurdles before conceptual development ever began,” says MACA

Chief Operating Officer Thierry de Boisvilliers. “Plus the Carcopter S Eleven will be powered by ecofriendly Hydrogen-based fuel cells, which leaves no impact on the environment while delivering greater

time-in-the-sky autonomy than vehicles using electricity or fossil fuels.” What’s more, de Boisvilliers

says, the company’s relationship with the world of auto racing allows MACA to fly their vehicle at low

altitudes at local racetracks within a closed environment, thus enabling the company to gauge, monitor

and support the vehicle through every phase of product testing.

“During trial flights, MACA will place sensors all around the tests-tracks, ensuring that even unmanned

sessions will prevent vehicles from hitting walls or – in the case of multiple vehicles testing

simultaneously – one another,” he says.

A retired French fighter pilot, de Boisvilliers founded MACA in 2020 with former Airbus executive

Michael Krollak, after three years of R&D. The concept launched as the direct result of an internal

Airbus engineering competition, where the duo’s Formula One Flying Car Concept earned top honors,

garnering the support of all major Airbus divisions. Now equipped with a Carcopter S Eleven flying

prototype, MACA intends to unveil their creation to the world next month in Vegas.

“Like our overall flying car concept, our booth won’t be your normal run of the mill trade show exhibit,”

de Boisvilliers says. “Through the power of Augmented Reality, visitors to our booth will feel the power

and excitement of autonomous flight over a broad variety of landscapes and terrains. They will truly

experience exactly how it will feel to fly aboard an S Eleven.” MACA’s exhibit booth at CES will also

feature a 1/3rd-sized scale model of the vehicle.

In addition to their booth in Eureka Park, MACA will also exhibit at CES Unveiled. The media-only

showcase event will take place Monday, January 3, from 5: 00 until 8: 30 p.m. in the Shorelines Exhibit

Hall at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

OUTSIGHT LAUNCHES THE FIRST REAL-TIME LIDAR SOLUTION FOR THE FORESTRY INDUSTRY

Outsight is bringing the power of real-time LiDAR technology to the forestry industry, democratizing instantaneous forest mapping.

  • An automated 3D solution that produces a 360° forest mapping in real time, and collects data on  individual trees which operators can digitally tag
  • Portable: the LiDAR box integrating Outsight’s software can be carried in a backpack and connected to a tablet for real-time surveys
  • 3 to 5 times faster than usual data collecting methods while being accurate and exhaustive
  • Offers GPS geolocation, allowing operators to overlap maps, if necessary

Paris (France), June 7, 2021 – Outsight, a leader in 3D Spatial Intelligence, has announced the launch of the first real-time LiDAR solution for the forestry industry. Drawing on its established LiDAR expertise in other industries, Outsight has developed a mapping solution capable of generating a comprehensive 3D map of a forest in real-time. Taking no longer than the time needed for the human or machine operator to traverse the plot, Outsight’s solution automatically determines the exact position and characteristics of trees. On-site operators can digitally tag each tree with supplemental information, including species or the presence of insects, that can be used for further analysis.

This solution further builds upon Outsight’s expertise in the environmental and forestry sectors. In July 2020, Outsight was selected from a large pool of candidates to be a recipient of the European Innovation Council’s inaugural Green Deal funding. A part of the European Union’s Green Deal Strategy, Outsight was chosen for its LiDAR-based environmental and forestry management and conservation solutions.

Outsight’s solution is already being used by forestry researchers around the world. Esteemed forestry professor, Philippe Nolet, has been using Outsight’s LiDAR processing technology to assist in his forest monitoring research at Université du Québec en Outaouais in Gatineau, Canada.

With Outsight, we’re able to complete our surveys of the forest three times faster”, says Philippe Nolet. “Then, when we’re back in the office, we have a detailed inventory of the plot with all our notes automatically tagged to each tree, saving us a huge amount of time.”

The solution has also been adopted by Outsight’s Hong Kong-based partner, Insight Robotics, a leader in the Forestry Risk Management sector. Using Outsight’s ground-based LiDAR tool to supplement its market-leading aerial survey solution, Insight Robotics can provide its clients with even more accurate survey data, allowing customers to better manage their forests and plantations.

Outsight’s LiDAR solution allows our team to quickly and accurately map a section of the forest and use the 3D map to complement our aerial survey results”, says William Tao.

After the proven success of its forestry-focused LiDAR solution on three continents, Outsight is continuing to work on new features for this market.

Award-Winning Technology

Outsight has successfully designed and built the next generation of LiDAR processing solutions, which have been the subject of 73 patent applications.

Swedish quantum leaders choose Qblox for a 20-qubit quantum computer control stack

November 22, 2021•by

Qblox Cluster control stack is the go-to choice for the new 20-qubit quantum computer to put Sweden at the forefront of quantum technology. The Qblox fully-integrated control stack comprises dedicated and modular electronics developed in Delft, The Netherlands.

In the Quantum Technology Lab (QTL) of Chalmers University, the mission to create their first 20-qubit processor began in 2018, spearheaded by Dr Giovanna Tancredi with Prof Jonas Bylander and Prof Per Delsing. This processors’ purpose is to solve problems far beyond the capabilities of any available supercomputer. The QTL quantum processor will be based on superconducting circuits, a widely-used technology for quantum computing.

In order to effectively exploit a 20-qubit quantum computer, the QTL decided to procure robust and scalable control and readout electronics. Following a thorough tendering process between various well-known competitors from around the world, the procurement contract has been awarded to Qblox because of its ability to surpass the requested technical requirements and its ability in scaling up in the future.

The Qblox control stack comprises a fully-integrated system providing all software and hardware components to control and readout their quantum device. The new Cluster RF modules were launched at the APS March meeting 2021:

  • Qubit control is managed by the QCM-RF module, which directly outputs RF signals in the range of 2-18.5 GHz. It integrates 6 AWG’s capable of generating complex baseband signals, two LO’s, and two IQ mixers. The module can self-calibrate its IQ mixer skewness, amplitude imbalance and LO leakage.
  • Qubit readout is performed by the QRM-RF module which includes LO’s, mixers, 6 AWGs pulse generators and digitizers for multiplexed readout in the range of 2 – 18.5 GHz. The QRM has advanced binning and averaging capabilities and can store up to 131072 IQ measurement results in a single experimental run.
